New Publication on PPPs and Their Implications for Public Finances

Share

The Inter-American Development Bank has launched a new book entitled "Bringing PPPs into the Sunlight. Synergies Now and Pitfalls later?" The book contains a wealth of information and examples of PPPs for infrastructure projects in developing economies, and covers the rise of PPPs in recent decades. It provides an overview of the fiscal implications of PPPs, discusses their value for infrastructure projects and debunks some of the myths around the risks that accompany them. It also includes chapters on the institutional frameworks of PPPs and unsolicited proposals.

One of the key messages of the book is that "the only economically and fiscally justified reasoning for pursuing PPPs is to achieve better value for money (VfM) than a purely public investment option."
