About the Sustainable Infrastructure Financial Portal

The Sustainable Infrastructure Finance Portal is a repository of news and views on sustainable infrastructure.

What the Portal offers

The Portal offers insight on the development and financing of sustainable infrastructure.  We scan news and specialist press on infrastructure, sustainability, technology and finance and compile a selection of noteworthy developments around the world.  The Portal also demonstrates how sustainable infrastructure can serve as a catalyst for realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

What Is Sustainable Infrastructure?

IISD defines Sustainable Infrastructure as assets that:

  • Lower carbon and environmental footprints
  • Provide for the stewardship of natural ecosystems
  • Move beyond compliance on core labour standards and human rights
  • Provide for the use of clean technologies
  • Trigger green innovation across domestic and international value chains
  • Spur investment in education, up-skilling and R&D
  • Increase employment
  • Are financially viable
  • Crowd-in domestic investors and businesses
  • Increase FDI and domestic value-added
  • Optimize value for money for tax payers and investors across the asset lifecycle

A project by the MAVA Foundation and IISD

The MAVA Foundation was established in 1994 and is a family-led, Swiss-based philanthropic foundation with offices in Switzerland and Senegal.

We work towards securing a future where biodiversity flourishes, especially in the Mediterranean, West Africa and Switzerland; the global economy supports human prosperity and a healthy planet; and the conservation community is thriving.

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is one of the world’s leading centres of research and innovation.

The Institute provides practical solutions to the growing challenges and opportunities of integrating environmental and social priorities with economic development. We report on international negotiations and share knowledge gained through collaborative projects, resulting in more rigorous research, stronger global networks, and better engagement among researchers, citizens, businesses and policy-makers.
